TechPP Daily Brief: Top Tech News, June 11, 2026
Today's top tech stories include Bluesky communities, Instagram algorithm controls, Google's new data policy, and Microsoft Office 2019 losing Mac support.
Hello everyone! Welcome to TechPP Daily Brief, where we report the biggest tech news from the last 24 hours. Today we have two new AI updates from Google, one of which can now generate text output four times faster.

There are also plenty of new launches, including Insta360’s Luna Ultra, its first pocket-sized gimbal camera. Google has decided to save your search data to train its AI models, and Instagram is finally allowing you to customize your feed.
Bluesky is Finally Getting Communities

Bluesky’s head of product, Alex Benzer, has announced that Bluesky will add communities sometime later this year. Communities will have their own custom feed and a dedicated URL that can be easily shared with other people. Communities will support Invite-only, Private, and Public options.
The Bigger Picture: Almost every social media platform with text-based content supports communities where people with similar interests can join a group and share content. Bluesky will follow a similar approach, and new communities will be built on the same AT Protocol that Bluesky uses for its entire app. Currently, Bluesky hasn’t disclosed any requirements for creating communities, and there is no information about how it plans to moderate them — which is a key concern given that most communities are prone to poorly moderated content.
Instagram is Letting You Tweak the Suggestion Algorithm

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has announced that Instagram is now rolling out a new feature where you can tweak the algorithm based on your interests. You can access this setting by going to the Reels or Explore tab and tapping on the icon in the upper-right corner.
The Bigger Picture: Meta recently announced it will use third-party website data to suggest content inside your Instagram and Facebook apps. Now the company is also giving users more control over the suggestions they receive on their feed. However, the “Your Algorithm” feature is currently only available in the US, and Instagram says it will roll out globally in English soon.
The feature only supports interest-based topics such as technology, fitness, and photography — you cannot describe what you want in free-form text. Mosseri says more options are coming later, including the ability to request posts from specific people based on your mood, along with additional content format controls.

Google Will Use Your Data to Train Its AI and Products

Google is rolling out a new Search Service History feature. It now wants to use your Google Lens search data, voice recordings from its real-time search tool, Google services history, and Google Translate history to train its AI models and products.
The Bigger Picture: The old saying goes: “If the product is free, that means you are the product.” That applies perfectly to Google and Meta products. AI models need large sets of data to train, and almost every company with an AI model has already trained it on internet data using questionable practices — Google is no exception. It appears that existing data is no longer sufficient for Google’s needs.
Google Search Service History is enabled by default if your Web and App Activity is turned on. You can opt out by going to Google Settings > Search and Data Privacy > Search History and turning it off. Note that this setting is separate from Web and App Activity History.
Turn Off These Settings to Prevent Google From Using Your Data

- Turn off search personalization settings
- Turn off search history settings
- Turn off the Save Media option so Google won’t save data used for search
Microsoft Office 2019 Will No Longer Work on Macs

There is some bad news if you are using Microsoft Office 2019 on your Mac. Starting July 13, you will no longer be able to create new files or edit existing ones, according to a Microsoft support article.
The Bigger Picture: Microsoft already ended mainstream support for Office 2019 in 2023. Starting July 13, the software will enter reduced performance mode, meaning you will no longer be able to create or edit documents. Microsoft recommends upgrading to Microsoft 365 to continue using Office on macOS.
Will iOS 27 Change the Adoption Game?
Apple’s iOS updates have historically seen strong adoption rates, and iOS 27 is expected to continue that trend given its range of new features. Apple tends to support a wide range of older devices with each major iOS release, which encourages users to upgrade quickly compared to the Android ecosystem.
Logitech Launches a Foldable Mouse
Logitech has announced a new foldable mouse designed for travelers and users who need a compact pointing device on the go. The mouse folds flat for easy storage and is compatible with multiple devices, fitting into Logitech’s growing lineup of portable peripherals.
Google Releases an Open Model That’s Now Four Times Faster
Google has released an updated open AI model that delivers text output at four times the speed of its predecessor. The improvement is aimed at developers and enterprises building applications that require fast inference, making the model more practical for real-time use cases.
