Google Launches Dedicated Gemini App for Windows
Google has released a free Gemini app for Windows. It launches via Alt + Space and works without a browser.

Google has launched a dedicated Gemini app for Windows, following its earlier release for macOS. The free app allows users to activate the AI assistant using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut, meaning Windows users no longer need to rely on the browser version.
Google describes the app as “lightweight and quiet” and states that it “does not slow down your PC,” with more features planned for future updates.
What the Gemini App for Windows Can Do
The Gemini app for Windows has three primary uses, according to Google.
At any time, users can open Gemini by pressing Alt + Space to carry out quick tasks such as fact-checking a document or generating title ideas, then return directly to their work.
The app also provides a dedicated workspace where users can access everything they currently use Gemini for. This includes handing off multi-step tasks to Gemini Spark — described as a 24/7 personal AI agent — or asking Gemini to prepare a project summary by pulling information from Google apps such as Gmail and Google Drive.
Additionally, the app supports image and video creation. Users can generate custom images using Nano Banana or produce videos directly from their desktop with Gemini Omni.
How to Download the Gemini App for Windows
The Windows version of Gemini is free and can be downloaded from Google’s Gemini desktop page. Once installed, it can be opened at any time using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut.
Although Google has confirmed that further features will be added in the future, it has not specified which ones or when they will arrive. This release brings the Windows app in line with the version already available for macOS.
