WhatsApp Tests Guest Calls for Users Without an Account

Meta is creating a guest call feature that will allow people to make WhatsApp calls without having to set up an account, by using a secure web link. The feature is still in development and has not yet been made available for testing.

It builds on the existing call link feature by enabling people to join a call via a link without needing to install the app or create an account. Each guest will have to be approved by the person hosting the call before they can join, and the calls will continue to be secured by end-to-end encryption. The feature is based on the same technology that powers guest chats.

How WhatsApp Guest Calls Work

Why Meta Is Building This Feature

Although WhatsApp has a large global user base, many people have not signed up for an account. Many companies now use WhatsApp as their primary method of communicating with customers, which excludes those who have chosen not to use the app.

By allowing guests to join calls without an account, Meta would give those individuals a way to connect with WhatsApp users while also hoping the experience encourages them to sign up for a full account.
